How does Momentum work?

Each Momentum by Medifast product contains 100 mg of Caffeine and 90 mg of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a potent antioxidant found in Green Tea. This combination has been clinically shown* to have the maximum effect on inducing thermogenesis.

What is Thermogenesis?

Thermogenesis is the process by which your body generates heat, or energy, by increasing your metabolic rate above normal. Think of thermogenesis as your metabolism "turning up the heat" to burn extra calories.

What are some benefits of using Momentum?

  • Contains 100 mg of calorie burning Caffeine
  • Contains 90 mg of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)
  • Enhances fat burning by boosting metabolism and decreasing appetite.
  • Is specially designed to help break through a weight loss plateau and assist with weight maintenance.

Is Momentum a replacement for exercise?

No, Momentum is not a replacement for exercise and it's not just a weight loss product. The increase in calories burned by consuming 3 Momentum products is equivalent to: Gardening for 15 minutes or Running 3/4 mile in 10 minutes or Walking at 3.5 mph for 15 minutes.

Who should use Momentum?

Momentum is a great tool for those in the Weight Loss phase of the Medifast Program. During this phase:

  • Momentum can help you over a weight loss plateau.
  • Momentum can keep you motivated to stay on the program longer by enhancing your success.

Momentum is also ideal for those in the Transition or Weight Maintenance phases. During these phases:

  • You have a higher calorie intake (compared to the 5 & 1 Plan) and maybe less sensitive to caffeine.
  • You're no longer limited to 3 servings of caffeine, so you can consume 3 Momentum products plus additional caffeinated beverages.
  • Momentum provides a boost to metabolism, which can promote successful long-term weight maintenance.

What is the recommended usage?

  • Up to 3 Momentum products may be used daily.
  • Any 3 Momentum Meals daily as part of the 5 & 1 Plan, specialized Weight Loss plans (Diabetes, Seniors, etc.) or Weight Maintenance phase; OR
  • Any 3 Flavor Infusers with daily water intake; OR
  • Mix and Match (2 Momentum Meals and 1 Flavor Infuser or 1 Momentum Meal and 2 Flavor Infusers) for a total of 3 Momentum products daily.

What is a Flavor Infuser?

A Flavor Infuser is an individually packaged serving of flavored powder that you can add to a bottle of water. Each Flavor Infuser should be mixed with 16 oz of water for the optimal taste experience. If you prefer a more intense flavor, you can add a Flavor Infuser to 8 oz of water instead. Momentum Flavor Infusers are available in 3 great-tasting flavors: Green Tea Lemon, Strawberry Lemonade and Mixed Berry.

Clinical Study

Christopher D. Coleman, Joni Rampolla, Jessica Kiel, Lisa M. Davis. Jason Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Owings Mills, MD

Objective: To evaluate the effect of thermogenic meal replacement beverages (TMRB) containing 90mg ECGC and 100mg of caffeine on resting energy expenditure (REE).

Subjects: 30 adults (19 women, 11 men) were stratified into 3 groups: lean (n=10, BMI 21.5 ± 2.1); overweight/obese (OW) (n=10, BMI 29.8 ± 2.7); or weight maintainers (WM) (n=10, BMI 28.8 ± 4.0, maintained wt loss of >5% body wt for ≥3 mos).

Methods: Following an overnight fast, baseline measures of ht, wt, WC, bp, pulse, and REE via indirect calorimetry were performed. REE was repeated at 30, 60, 90, and 120 min after consuming a TMRB. Appetite was assessed via visual analogue scale at baseline, 30 min and 120 min after consuming the TMRB. Results: Overall, mean REE increased 24.0 ± 10.1% for the 2-hr period following the consumption of a TMRB. Mean 24-hr REE was increased 5.9 ± 2.5% overall (p=0.000), 5.7 ± 3.1% among lean subjects (p=0.0002), 5.3 ± 1.4% among OW subjects (p=0.000), and 6.8 ± 2.7% among WM (p=0.0007). There was a trend toward increased fat oxidation (p=0.116). Appetite was significantly reduced 30 min after consuming the TMRB (p=0.0002), but not at 120 min.

Conclusion: Our findings suggest 3 potential benefits of TMRB in weight control: increases in resting energy expenditure, increases in fat oxidation, and decreases in appetite. Decreases in energy in and increases in energy out should translate into improved weight loss and weight maintenance.
